Duo Exhibition

‘Petra Börner and Annelie Carlström both work with a focused expression that is characterised by a strong sense of craftsmanship and material. With great sensitivity, they touch on subjects that revolve around humans and nature. Their stylistically different universes have a similar intensity that complements and enriches each other. Grayscale meets colors, the specifically expressive meets the stylised, the organically growing meets the stripped-down. The exhibition shows a wide spectrum of commercial commissions, sketches and independent works.

Petra Börner (b. 1973) is a Swedish artist and illustrator who has lived and worked in London for many years, where she has also studied fashion at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. With a sensitivity to tone and a well-developed overall effect, Petra brings out the essence of what she depicts. Her expression is rhythmically lively and flowing and contains very well-balanced stylisation. The personally marked visual world is full of stylistic references to movements in 20th century art and design. Petra has illustrated for, among others, the Royal Swedish Opera, Apple, Louis Vuitton, Vogue, Systembolaget and IKEA.

Annelie Carlström (b. 1979) graduated from Beckmans Design University in the spring of 2007 after several years of art studies. Since then, she has worked as an illustrator and artist full-time, based in Stockholm. Annelie's detailed works explore the quiet grayscales of pencil drawings with sharpness and precision. The visual world is dynamic and enigmatically retro-modern. A serious tenderness characterises her sensitively depicted people, but also humorous playfulness in proportions and composition. Annelie has illustrated for clients such as Åhléns, Monki, Moderna Museet, H&M, Dagens Nyheter and the Swedish folk pop duo First Aid Kit.’
