NODE is a fair trade project set up by myself and Nepalese entrepreneur Akshay Sthapit.
While living in Nepal in 2010 and working on various fair trade projects, Chris Haughton discovered Kumbeshwar Technical School, a non-profit adult school which trains disadvantaged adults.
KTS was set up by a family from the lowest caste to improve conditions for their caste, it has since grown to help all sorts of disadvantaged individuals.
They sell hand woven rugs, the labour intensive work results in stunningly hand crafted objects which are very expensive to make and their contemporary designs needed to match the craft. I began designing rugs for them to weave first my designs and then also commissioning other designers.
We created an exhibition of 18 artists/ designers in the Design Museum in London in March 2012.
