Petra Börner is a Swedish artist living in London.
With a mixed media practice, she returns to studies of the human figure, natural themes and opposing cityscapes. Driven by a linear, bold line her works are usually created as unique pieces as part of series. Her original artworks are exhibited and available for purchase at various times.
Petra moved to London in 1994 to study fashion at Central St Martins and first worked in fashion with Sherald Lamden at Seraph (London) and Susan Cianciolo (NYC). She is primarily known for her work as an illustrator, having started getting commissions by design-led publications like Elle & Vogue during her studies, gradually growing into her main focus in 2005.
Her signature cut paper illustrations, originating from colour studies and pattern designs for fashion and interior textiles, are created by hand using a scalpel. This method has an analogue and tactile outcome keeping the texture and shadows created by the layered papers. The unique and timeless quality of her award winning illustrations has proved bold and individual enough to attract a loyal, cross- industry client base.
A bystander to trends; her artwork accompany classics in the literary world including work by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Edward St Aubyn, Marguerite Duras and Mary McCarthy.
